Professional Cryogenic Deburring Service: Efficient Removal of Flash from EPDM Rubber Seals

Recently, our company successfully completed a cryogenic deburring service for a batch of irregularly shaped ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber seals for a client. The customer required the removal of product flash while ensuring deburring precision met industry high standards. Leveraging the advanced NS-120T cryogenic deburring machine and mature process technology, we efficiently achieved the task, with post-deburring flash precision controlled within 0.05mm, exceeding customer expectations.

Project Background: High-Precision Cryogenic Deburring Requirements

The EPDM seals had complex shapes, with flash thickness ranging from 0.1-0.2mm. Traditional manual or mechanical deburring methods struggled to ensure consistency and risked damaging the products. The customer opted for cryogenic deburring (low-temperature blast deflashing) to efficiently remove flash while maintaining dimensional stability and surface finish.

Process Flow & Optimization Plan

  1. Pre-Treatment Evaluation

    • Weighed and analyzed flash distribution on EPDM seals to ensure proper loading.

    • Adjusted blasting parameters based on rubber hardness (Shore A 40-90) to prevent deformation.

  2. Critical Cryogenic Deburring Parameters

    • Temperature Setting: -100°C to -120°C (optimal embrittlement range for EPDM).

    • Blasting Time: 10 minutes (checked in stages to avoid over-processing).

    • Blasting Media: Ceramic balls (φ1-3mm) ensured balanced flash removal and surface protection.

  3. Post-Processing & Quality Inspection

    • Post-deburring inspection using optical measuring instruments confirmed flash ≤0.05mm.

    • Verified no scratches or deformations, meeting customer specifications.
